Event Title: Mid-Michigan Steamboat Meet
Where: Historic Charlton Park, Hastings, Michigan
Saturday, July 11, 2009
This year's Mid-Michigan Steamboat Meet will be held in conjunction with the 38th Annual Antique Gas & Steam Engine Show at Historic Charlton Park, 2545 S. Charlton Rd., Hastings, Michigan. The Park adjoins both the Thornapple Lake and the Thornapple River, and this venue offers an idyllic setting with several miles of protected lake and river water which is perfectly suited for steamboating.

Historic Charlton Park, Museum, Village, and Recreation Area encompasses three hundred acres with a historical village that includes; a museum, schoolhouse, hardware, timber cabin, township hall, church, carpenter/cooper shop, general store, blacksmith shop, barber shop, inn, carriage house, bank, several houses, the Gas & Steam Club barn, the sawmill, Exhibition Hall, and a circa 1700 Anishinabe Indian Village.

The Park is also home to the Charlton Park Gas and Steam Engine Club, whose members organize the Annual Antique Gas & Steam Engine Show and maintain, as well as operate, the antique equipment including the permanent 1895 Corley steam-powered sawmill and the Park's rare 1884 Westinghouse traction engine. The Westinghouse engine is used to power various exhibits in the Park and to lead the beginning of the antique tractor parades - each day of the Show.

During the Show, antique tractors, traction engines, and various conveyances can be seen traveling around the Park grounds. Daily scheduled events include; operating of the saw mill, shingle mill, threshing wheat, tractor pulls, tractor parades, heavy horse team pulls, steamboat parade, and nightly sparks shows. Saturday evening's events include the annual pot luck for exhibitors and live entertainment.

Steamboaters and exhibitors may camp free of charge on the Park's grounds during the show. The official Show runs Friday - Sunday, however, early steamboater arrivals are welcome for those who want to do some early steamboating, help with set-up, or just kick back and relax. We hope to see you at this year's Meet! Please RSVP your dock reservations anytime prior to 1 May 2009.
