Off and on there has been a steamboat meet/race from the Walloon Inn for several years. The lake was/is a major destination for summer visitors to cottages and hotels there. The Walloon Lake Inn was the location of a major transfer point for these visitors to the many steamboats and launches that provided transportation from the 1880s on. A look at the "google map" shows a large wooded lake with lots of cruising area. Excellent place from a permanent meet!
The owner of the Walloon Lake Inn has owned a steam launch, "Windemere", for several years and hopes to revive this tradition. Although accommodations at the Inn are limited, there are motels close by. A launch ramp is adjacent to the site and free mooring will be provided. A barbecue is planned for Sunday evening for those registered. Contact David Beier through the Walloon Lake Inn website at http://www.walloonlakeinn.com
