Off and on there has been a steamboat meet/race from the Walloon Inn for several years. The lake was/is a major destination for summer visitors to cottages and hotels there. The Walloon Lake Inn was the location of a major transfer point for these visitors to the many steamboats and launches that provided transportation from the 1880s on. A look at the "google map" shows a large wooded lake with lots of cruising area. Excellent place from a permanent meet!
The owner of the Walloon Lake Inn has owned a steam launch, "Windemere", for several years and hopes to revive this tradition. Although accommodations at the Inn are limited, there are motels close by. A launch ramp is adjacent to the site and free mooring will be provided. 33rd (?) Annual Meet. Held every year at the B & W Resort and Marina, this event draws hobby steamboaters from the West Coast of the USA and has had as many 30+ boats. Boats start arriving on Thursday. The Marina is located on the upper reaches of the Sacramento Delta and boasts excellent protected cruising areas, good launch and mooring facilities, and well maintained cabins with a small grocery on site. Activities are casual with a "steam to it" picnic lunch and a generous buffet/potluck dinner on Saturday evening. The the docks are located adjacent to the lodging facilities.
